Web 2.0 Applications

Here are just a few free web 2.0 apps that I have found to be particularly useful as an education professional.

Google Docs - What can I say? Google Docs is like an online MS Word, except all of your work is accessible from anywhere there's an internet connection, even your smartphone. You can also share your docs to anyone with an email account.

Twitter - Follow the "tweets" or mini-postings of some of the best minds in education. Always current (to the second) with fresh links and new ideas, Twitter is changing the way we communicate. Need help getting started? Just ask me!

Whiteboard - Not related to our Mimio interactive whiteboards, this is a sight similar to Google Docs that allows multiple people (students in our case) to collaborate on a single document, allowing each to see the specific changes that the others have made. Makes a great "editing" activity.

TaDaList - A simple to-do list application. Useful for making checklists. Let's see what creative uses teacher's can come up with for it.

Teacher Submitted Links

South Jersey Academy - This web site has many teacher resources, including interactive standardized tests that resemble the NJASK tests.

Discovery Education - Discovery School is the School Resources section of Discovery Education. Tons of great content here, all free of charge!

Internet 4 Classrooms - Several large collections of links for K-12 teachers, including test prep.

WebQuest.org - Very extensive collection of WebQuests. "A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented lesson format in which most or all the information that learners work with comes from the web."

Education World - Huge educational resource. Lesson plans, classroom tips, professional development, etc.

4Teachers.org - works to help you integrate technology into your classroom by offering online tools and resources. This site helps teachers locate and create ready-to-use Web lessons, quizzes, rubrics and classroom calendars.

ABC Teach - This is the place for kids, parents, and teachers. 5000+ free printable pages and worksheets.

The Reading Well - Audio presentations of children's books.

Read.Write.Think - LAL Lessons that incorporate technology.

Tammy's Tips for Teachers - Great site for lower grades.

Primary Games - Cross-curriculur activities, games, and printables.

Thinkfinity (Formerly Marco-Polo) - HUGE database of educational resources, searchable by grade, subject, theme. "This is the Verizon Foundation's signature digital learning platform designed to improve educational and literacy achievement."
